Baby on Board

Wednesday, November 9, 2011; 12:36 PM

Jessica Simpson has confirmed that she and fiance, Eric Johnson are expecting their first bundle of joy together. I must commence by congratulating the couple for their soon to be, 'new kid on the block'. Miss. 'Chicken of the Sea', postponed wedding plans earlier this year perhaps to attend to other matters. Regardless of the reasoning, it is now apparent that planning a wedding amidst 'hormonal inbalances' would not be a good look for the former reality star.

Planning a wedding in and of itself is a stressful undertaking. Now, add to that, a baby on board. To say this presents new challenges is an understatement. However, waddling while wedding, is not impossible. If you are in this predicament, take your cues from Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz who, planned and wed while Alicia was expecting.

Of course, the question is, if you're the bride that is, how will I look in my dress? Alicia wore an ivory silke, Grecian-inspired gown designed by Vera Wang. Six inch glass slippers were not the order of the day for this mom-to-be. For comforts sake, Alicia's mode of transport down the aisle were crystal-encrusted flat sandals, while her hair saw an elegant headband and a bouquet of purple calla lillies to complete the modern goddess look.

I encourage you to fully embrace your bump when selecting your gown. As a mother-to-be, comfort should be your primary goal while still remaining elegant. Generally, a bride-to-be may go for two dress fittings. Finding the dress with your name on it may still require adjustments and/embellishments. Therefore, factor in the bump that will only progress with time and, call for several fittings.

Although not a wedding dress, Gwyneth Paltrow displayed how to look flawless while pregnant at the 2006 Golden Globes. Her Victorian inspired dress had an empire waste that draped so beautifully over her baby bump. Wearing an empire waste gown is ideal and practical as it allows for freedom around your bump.

Designers today are conscious of mothers/brides-to-be and, are creating maternity wedding gowns so you too, can step gracefully down the aisle in style. If you are an expecting bride, your natural baby glow will eliminate your facial worries and, only call for you to care for your gown and your steady, comfortable footwear.

Also, remember that "Donnie" is a great name for both girls and boys.... so remember me when choosing a namesake! :-)
